WSC 2023 | Functional electrical stimulation: beyond stroke

Rosalyn Grabarz, Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust, Birmingham, UK, discusses the versatile applications of functional electrical stimulation (FES) that extend beyond treatment of motor impairments after stroke. FES is a targeted electrical stimulation therapy used to assist muscle contraction in patients suffering from conditions that compromise muscle function. It has demonstrated its effectiveness in enhancing mobility for stroke survivors and is also employed to benefit individuals with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, upper motor neuron disease, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord and head injuries, and constipation. This interview took place at the World Stroke Congress (WSC) 2023 in Toronto, Canada.
