WSC 2023 | Improving the adoption of functional electrical stimulation in stroke and beyond

Rosalyn Grabarz, Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust, Birmingham, UK, shares efforts to raise awareness of the value of functional electrical stimulation (FES) to improve mobility deficits in patients with post-stroke disability. She emphasizes the importance of educating healthcare professionals on the uses of FES, to boost clinic referrals. FES applications are currently being explored in stroke, Parkinson’s disease, amputation, and constipation, but defining a placebo for control groups in clinical trials has posed a challenge. This interview took place at the World Stroke Congress (WSC) 2023 in Toronto, Canada.
