Diana Aguiar de Sousa, MD, PhD, University of Lisbon, Santa Maria Hospital, Lisbon, Portugal, shares her thoughts on how the recent developments in acute stroke care hold the promise of expanding treatment access and enhancing outcomes for eligible patients. Emphasizing the critical need for swift treatment within the designated window, several key developments have addressed the fundamental challenge of timing, such as the implementation of tenecteplase and changes in imaging protocols. Prof. Aguiar de Sousa introduces the Stroke Action Plan Implementation Programme, which is a collaborative effort between the European Stroke Organization (ESO) and the Stroke Alliance for Europe (SAFE), actively involved in educational initiatives and aiding countries in developing improved stroke programs. This ongoing program aims to elevate awareness of stroke care and foster improvements in treatment practices across Europe. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2023 Congress in Budapest, Hungary.
