Giorgio Busto, MD, Careggi University Hospital, Florence, Italy, discusses infarct growth rate in acute ischemic stroke and how it can be used to risk-stratify patients for treatment. Dr Busto explains that infarct growth rate is heterogeneous between patients, allowing them to be classified as fast or slow progressors. He outlines imaging-based methods to assess infarct growth in clinical practice, explaining that fast progressors may benefit from rapid transfer for thrombectomy and neuroprotective drugs, while slow progressors may benefit most from endovascular thrombectomy. This interview took place at the 18th World Stroke Congress (WSC) in Seoul, Korea.
