Aynur Özge, MD, PhD, Mersin University School of Medicine, Mersin, Turkey, explores the growing trend of supporting neurobiological, clinical, and epidemiological data highlighting the importance of a holistic approach in migraine management. Over the past decade, there has been a shift from solely focusing on managing specific neurotransmitter levels to understanding the broader biological components and psychosocial factors involved. Prof. Özge emphasizes the need for mechanism-based management while incorporating lifestyle regulations, complementary relaxation techniques, diet, exercise, and social network support. Migraine is no longer viewed as just a headache, but rather a complex disorder with comorbidities, particularly psychiatric conditions, that share common neurobiological and epigenetic expressions. Therefore, multidisciplinary and holistic approaches are highly important in the comprehensive management of migraines. This interview took place at the International Headache Congress (IHC) 2023 in Seoul, Korea.
