IHC 2023 | Exploring the gender and age factors in migraine prevalence

Aynur Özge, MD, PhD, Mersin University School of Medicine, Mersin, Turkey, discusses the relationship between age, gender, and population in relation to migraine prevalence. During adulthood, the incidence of migraines increases, particularly in females, whose rate doubles compared to males. However, there is some good news as this ratio decreases over time. Interestingly, migraines also vary based on cultural and geographical factors, with higher ratios observed in urban areas. Understanding the demographics of migraine prevalence is crucial for healthcare professionals to provide accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans. By recognizing the influence of age, gender, and cultural context, healthcare professionals can better address the needs of migraine patients. This interview took place at the International Headache Congress (IHC) 2023 in Seoul, Korea.
