MDS 2023 | Bridging the gap between research and clinical practice in movement disorders

Francisco Cardoso, MD, PhD, FAAN, The Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, discusses the main priorities of the Movement Disorder Society (MDS). Prof. Cardoso highlights the importance of enhancing the education of healthcare professionals, not only in the field of movement disorders but also among neurologists and healthcare professionals in general. The MDS achieves this through large congresses and online platforms, which allow them to reach a global audience. By providing accessible information and bridging the gap between scientific research and its practical application, the MDS aims to improve the quality of life for individuals with different movement disorders, not just Parkinson’s disease. With representatives from over 150 countries, the MDS truly has a global reach in its mission. This interview took place at the 2023 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Copenhagen, Denmark.
