Ulrik Dalgas, PhD, Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark, discusses the potential benefits of incorporating exercise as an integral part of multiple sclerosis (MS) treatment, emphasizing the importance of starting exercise early in the disease progression, particularly during diagnosis, to underscore the significance of leading an active lifestyle. Dr Dalgas explores the potential synergy between exercise and medication, with the possibility of optimizing the effectiveness of combined treatments. Certain medications may work more effectively and have fewer side effects when complemented by appropriate exercise. Additionally, taking simple medications at specific times may enhance post-medication exercise training. The integration of exercise and medical treatment holds promise for the future, aiming to improve the overall management of MS. This interview took place at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) Congress 2023 in Milan, Italy.
