Sleep Europe 2026 | Oveporexton approved for narcolepsy type 1: safety and what to expect in first weeks of treatment

Lucie Barateau, MD, PhD, Gui-de-Chauliac Hospital, CHU Montpellier, Montpellier, France, discusses the safety profile of oveporexton, an orexin receptor 2 (OX2R) agonist approved in the US for the treatment of narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) in adults. Dr Barateau explains that oveporexton is safe and well tolerated, with insomnia and frequent urination being the main side effects. These effects are moderate and transient, resolving within days to weeks, and are outweighed by the benefits of treatment. This interview took place at Sleep Europe 2026 in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
