Sleep Europe 2026 | One big question with Lucie Barateau: what to expect in hypersomnolence care in the next 5 years?

Lucie Barateau, MD, PhD, Gui-de-Chauliac Hospital, CHU Montpellier, Montpellier, France, discusses the advances she expects in hypersomnolence disorders over the next five years. Dr Barateau describes orexin receptor 2 (OX2R) agonists as a revolution in the field, with data in adults with narcolepsy type 1 (NT1) and studies emerging in narcolepsy type 2 (NT2) and pediatric populations. She also highlights the need for better phenotyping of NT2 and idiopathic hypersomnia, as many patients do not fit current diagnostic categories. This interview took place at Sleep Europe 2026 in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
