WSC 2023 | Enhancing stroke rehabilitation in low-income countries with innovative technologies

Stroke rehabilitation is crucial for stroke survivors and enhancements are desperately needed in low- to middle-income countries where it is currently lacking. Sean I. Savitz, MD, Institute for Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases at UTHealth Houston, Houston, TX, highlights barriers to rehabilitation in these settings and the urgent need to make this care accessible. Innovative technologies, such as real-time telerehabilitation and mobile health programs which adapt phones and laptops to provide care to survivors, are bridging the gap. Moreover, a new project is underway to offer prescribed videos to uninsured patients, promoting self-management for stroke survivors in underserved regions. This interview took place at the World Stroke Congress (WSC) 2023 in Toronto, Canada.
