ESOC 2024 | Pre-hospital delays in stroke care

Apostolos Safouris, MD, PhD, Athens Metropolitan Hospital, Athens, Greece, shares his thoughts on the problem of pre-hospital delays in stroke care. While substantial efforts in recent years have optimized door-to-need time, significant delays in the pre-hospital phase are impeding further progress. Dr Safouris comments on the importance of collaboration between emergency medical service (EMS) providers and hospital-based stroke teams to streamline the transition of care. Work is ongoing to define the optimal organizational paradigm, such as the drip‐and‐ship strategy or the mothership model. This interview took place at the 10th European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) 2024 in Basel, Switzerland.
