Apostolos Safouris, MD, PhD, Athens Metropolitan Hospital, Athens, Greece, discusses the remaining questions in posterior circulation stroke research. After acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to basilar artery occlusion (BAO), recanalization with endovascular treatment (EVT) is now the standard of care given the positive results of numerous recent clinical trials. However, questions remain whether EVT should be undertaken in patients with isolated posterior cerebral artery stroke, due to the higher risk of hemorrhage. Further research is needed in this territory to demonstrate the efficacy of EVT in these patients. This interview took place during the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) in Munich, Germany.
