IHC 2023 | Harassment among headache professionals: a global survey findings

Irene de Boer, MD, Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, Netherlands, discusses a global survey conducted among headache professionals, encompassing researchers, clinical care providers, and academics. Nearly 600 professionals from various regions responded, though there was a significant underrepresentation from certain areas, notably outside of Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. This discrepancy suggests either an outreach issue or a hesitance among these groups to participate. A troubling finding was the widespread experience of workplace harassment; over 40% of respondents reported facing verbal, physical, or sexual harassment during their careers. This pressing issue underscores the need for broader intervention not only in the headache research community but across all medical professions. Collaborative efforts are paramount in addressing and eradicating such harmful practices. This interview took place at the International Headache Congress (IHC) 2023 in Seoul, Korea.
