AAN 2023 | Sleep as a metric for heart and brain health

Alberto Ramos, MD, FAAN, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, FL, discusses the importance of sleep for heart and brain health. In recent studies, sleep has been recognized as a crucial metric for overall well-being by the American Heart Association. Just like physical activity, blood glucose levels, diet, and weight management, obtaining seven to nine hours of quality sleep is now considered essential for a healthy heart and brain. This shift in perspective emphasizes the significance of sleep in maintaining good cardiovascular and cognitive health. The hope is that healthcare professionals will prioritize addressing sleep issues in their patients alongside other well-established health factors. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting 2023 in Boston, MA.
