WSC 2023 | Elevating stroke care: the evolution of telestroke medicine for post-stroke care

Theresa Sevilis, MD, DO, TeleSpecialist LLC, Fort Myers, FL, briefly outlines the future trajectory of telestroke medicine. While the current state of telestroke effectively addresses acute stroke care through real-time virtual consultations, a notable gap exists in post-stroke care. The need for patient follow-ups, including medication guidance and addressing questions or concerns, often results in lengthy wait times of up to 6 months before consulting with a neurologist—proving insufficient. The aspiration is for telestroke to evolve to seamlessly incorporate post-stroke care, bridging the existing gap in comprehensive stroke management. This interview took place at the World Stroke Congress (WSC) 2023 in Toronto, Canada.
