Wenbo Zhao, MD, PhD, Xuanwu Hospital, Beijing, China, comments on the value of urokinase thrombolysis for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in China, highlighting the country’s accumulated experience with this treatment despite limited international recognition. Dr Zhao notes that urokinase has demonstrated reliable therapeutic effects and comparable efficacy to newer thrombolytics, but challenges remain, particularly in developing personalized dosing protocols.
