Laszlo Csiba, MD, PhD, DSci, University of Debrecen, Debrecen, Hungary, goes into depth diagnosing extracranial vessel obstructions, which contribute to approximately 20% of strokes. While MRI and computer tomography provide precise vessel status assessments, they are not practical for routine screening due to cost constraints. However, ultrasound, particularly carotid ultrasound, emerges as a sensitive and cost-effective screening tool. The non-invasive and hazard-free nature of ultrasounds makes them suitable for frequent screenings and post-intervention follow-ups and highlights the promising future of carotid and transcranial doppler ultrasounds. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2023 Congress in Budapest, Hungary.
