Raoul Pop, MD, PhD, University Hospitals Strasbourg, University of Strasbourg, Strasbourg, France, discusses the evolution of thrombectomy techniques for the management of ischemic stroke. Several efforts are currently focused on improving the design of stent retrievers and internal aspiration catheters. There is still a need to develop techniques to address patients with failed recanalization, such as those with hard to extract clots or intracranial atherosclerotic disease. Dr Pop believes research investigating rescue intracranial stenting is promising. This interview took place during the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC) in Munich, Germany.
