ISC 2025 | Neuroprotective strategies to improve functional outcomes in acute ischemic stroke

Wenbo Zhao, MD, PhD, Xuanwu Hospital, Beijing, China, comments on the ongoing research in neuroprotective strategies to improve functional outcomes following acute ischemic stroke (AIS), particularly for those treated with reperfusion therapy. Dr Zhao highlights that both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods have been studied, but few have translated into clinical practice. He also mentions anti-platelet therapy as a rapidly progressing area in AIS research. This interview took place at the 2025 International Stroke Conference (ISC), held in Los Angeles, CA.
