Burcu Zeydan, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, points out the difference between spinal cord measurements obtained from spinal cord MRIs and brain MRIs. Measurements obtained from spinal cord MRIs provide quantification of the entire cord and increase the sensitivity of the evaluation. Because brain MRIs are more accessible in a clinical setting, they are often used for cord measurements. Although they can only acquire quantification of the upper cervical cord, brain MRIs seem to be a good alternative to cord MRIs by providing reasonable approximations from existing scans, saving acquisition time. This interview took place at the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) Congress 2022 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
