WSC 2023 | CT imaging to diagnose stroke patients eligible for EVT

In the evaluation of acute ischemic stroke patients eligible for endovascular thrombectomy (EVT), the standard diagnostic triage includes simple non-contrast CT imaging, quantitative CT perfusion, and CT angiogram. Adnan Qureshi, MD, University of Missouri-Columbia, School of Medicine, Columbia, Missouri, explores the possibility of simplifying the diagnostic pathway by eliminating CT perfusion. This arises from the evolving notion that CT perfusion does not offer additional valuable information to enhance the diagnostic process in all patients. Further research is required to identify the specific patient population that would benefit from CT perfusion and to ensure emergency teams have the necessary resources to make these determinations. This interview took place at the World Stroke Congress (WSC) 2023 in Toronto, Canada.
