Sleep Europe 2024 | The central role of sleep in the overall health & development of pediatric populations

Karen Spruyt, PhD, Université Paris Cité, INSERM, NeuroDiderot, Paris, France, describes the association between the instability of sleep and cognitive underperformance in pediatric populations. She highlights that social, behavioral, and emotional issues may relate to the timing of sleep in 24-hour periods as well as sleep intervals. However, Prof. Spruyt highlights the limitations of available literature, including a lack of research in pediatric populations with neurodevelopmental disabilities and the subjective nature of sleep questionnaires used to evaluate sleep quality. This interview took place at the Sleep Europe 2024 congress in Seville.
