Celia Oreja-Guevara, MD, PhD, University Hospital San Carlos, Madrid, Spain, discusses the clinical value of the central vein sign (CVS) in multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. The CVS is a central linear hypointensity within lesions on T2*-weighted imaging. More than six CVS-positive lesions can indicate a high probability of MS in a patient. Alternatively, in patients with a high number of lesions, having CVS in more than 40% of lesions indicates a greater than 90% chance of having MS. This makes CVS extremely useful in making a differential diagnosis. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
