EAN 2026 | Efficacy and safety of ofatumumab in real-world practice for MS: multi-centre study

Ana Paz Tamayo, MD, University Hospital San Carlos, Madrid, Spain, discusses a multi-centre study exploring the efficacy and safety of ofatumumab in real-world practice for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). The study found ofatumumab had encouraging efficacy outcomes and was well-tolerated, consistent with clinical trials. This interview took place at the 12th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) in Geneva, Switzerland.

So I am presenting a poster about efficacy and safety of ofatumumab in real world clinical practice. Ofatumumab is a humanized anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody which is used to treat active forms of relapsing MS, multiple sclerosis. We conducted a multicenter study with 11 centers and almost 500 patients to evaluate efficacy and safety of ofatumumab in a real world clinical setting, and we found that as for effectiveness, ofatumumab reduced the annualized relapse rate and the number of gadolinium enhancing lesions. Also, the adverse events were mild in all of cases after the first dose. There were adverse events like flu-like symptoms or headache or fatigue. So it was really well tolerated, and all of these data were consistent with the clinical trials for ofatofatumumab. So it reinforces the idea that ofatumumab is a safe and effective treatment for active forms of MS. And so we also, in future studies, I think it’s important to study these treatments for longer periods of time to search for more adverse events or tolerability profile.
