Santiago Perez Lloret, MD, PhD, University of Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina, discusses a study on patients with neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (NOH) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). The study investigated the genetic load in these patients compared to those without NOH. The hypothesis was that patients with NOH would have a different genetic profile, and the study confirmed that these patients had numerous genetic mutations absent in those without NOH. By characterizing these mutations, the researchers identified new pathways involved in the development of NOH. This discovery opens exciting possibilities for exploring novel treatment approaches for this condition, which currently has limited effective treatments. This interview took place at the 2023 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Copenhagen, Denmark.
