MDS 2023 | Shifting the focus on Parkinson’s disease research: looking beyond the dopamine deficit

Santiago Perez Lloret, MD, PhD, University of Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina, discusses the complexity of Parkinson’s disease beyond the deficit of dopamine. While dopamine plays a significant role, there are other aspects of the disease that are not connected to dopamine. Understanding these additional factors is crucial for developing disease-modifying treatments. By exploring new pathways and alterations in neuron function, researchers can gain a deeper understanding of Parkinson’s disease and potentially uncover new treatment options. This interview took place at the 2023 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Copenhagen, Denmark.
