Sleep Europe 2026 | Neuropixels, AI and theory: the future of understanding brain network dynamics

Edvard I. Moser, PhD, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway, discusses how technologies such as Neuropixels probes and two-photon miniscopes are transforming the study of neural networks in the brain by recording large numbers of neurons at high temporal resolution. Prof. Moser explains that machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), alongside theory and computational models, will be essential to interpret this complex data. He highlights that, in the future, understanding normal network dynamics will also help explain dynamics in disease, particularly in psychiatric disorders affecting cognition. This interview took place at Sleep Europe 2026 in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
