AHS 2023 | Insights and applications of AI in headache

Chia-Chun Chiang, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, discusses the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in headache. There are potential uses for AI in diagnosis, classification, subtyping of patients, and predicting treatment response. AI can also be used to analyze diverse data sources, such as social media and smartphone headache applications, to provide insights into how patients report migraine and the effectiveness of medication. The field of AI has been pushed from predictive to generative due to models such as ChatGPT. Generative AI may help physicians draft responses to patient questions, generate clinical notes from lab results, and generate test questions. It is important to evaluate AI models to ensure accuracy and consider the data that AI was trained on. This interview took place at the American Headache Society 2023 meeting in Austin, TX.
