WSC 2023 | Non-contrast CT imaging to identify stroke patients eligible for endovascular thrombectomy

Permesh Singh Dhillon, MBBS, FRCR, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottingham, UK, sheds light on a paradigm shift in our understanding of appropriate imaging techniques for identifying eligible candidates for endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) as a treatment for acute ischemic stroke. Dr Dhillon touches on the TENSION trial (NCT03094715), which provided evidence for simple non-contrast CT imaging for patient selection. This highlights that, in many cases, there is no longer a need for complex and expensive imaging methods that were once deemed necessary. Using simple imaging, EVT can become more accessible, inclusive of a broader patient population, and quicker to initiate. This interview took place at the World Stroke Congress (WSC) 2023 in Toronto, Canada.
