The Global Stroke Action Coalition is the largest ever advocacy action for stroke and we are coming together with the large professional stroke organizations together with the patient support organizations and with industry partners to join forces because it requires very strong advocacy for stroke. Stroke is one of the largest diseases overall, but stroke has not been given the attention that it deserves for many reasons. Stroke has been in the shadow of heart disease for many years. There were not acute phase therapies for stroke. Now this has dramatically changed. It’s revolutionizing the stroke field. There is a prevention potential for stroke, which is huge. And there is a therapeutic potential with the acute phase therapy, which is enormous. And also rehabilitation possibilities, but we need to really do strong advocacy, we need to have national stroke plans, we need to have acute therapies implemented all around the world, and we need adequate resources for this, so this is why we have come together in this effort. We have had meetings now in conjunction with the UN General Assembly in New York in September. We will be convening at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, and we feel that this is one of the most important actions for stroke overall.
