Anastasia Bougea, PhD, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Eginition Hospital, Athens, Greece, presents findings from a randomized, controlled study on the impact of amantadine on cognitive function in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Two groups were observed over 12 months: one received amantadine, while the other followed regular treatment. The amantadine group showed improvement in cognitive functions like verbal memory, with no significant side effects such as psychiatric symptoms or anxiety. Dr Bougea emphasizes that further longitudinal studies are needed to validate these results. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
