MDS 2022 | Tackling sleep disturbances in Parkinson’s disease

Gennaro Pagano, MD, MSc, PhD, F. Hoffmann – La Roche Ltd, Basel, Switzerland, discusses the treatment of sleep disturbances in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Sleep disturbances are common in patients with PD, and although associated with various negative outcomes, they remain an unmet need. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is characterized by complex motor enactment of dreams and is considered a prodromal marker of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Hence, it is crucial to understand the mechanisms behind RBD to develop drugs to improve sleep and target PD at early stages. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
