AAN 2023 | The connection between flu and narcolepsy and neuroimmunology

Emmanuel Mignot, MD, PhD, Stanford University School of Medicine, Palo Alto, CA, discusses the intriguing relationship between the flu virus and narcolepsy, delving into the growing understanding of how the flu triggers this neurological condition. Additionally, Prof. Mignot highlights the study of autoimmune diseases and the importance of exploring immune-related disorders affecting the central nervous system (CNS). Novel diseases such as anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis are emerging, and there’s a need to investigate their underlying mechanisms. Collaborating with neurologists in this rapidly expanding field, Prof. Mignot aims to unravel the mysteries of the immune system’s impact on the brain and its potential implications for a broader range of diseases. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting 2023 in Boston, MA.
