AHS 2023 | Future research on sound hypersensitivity & phonophobia in migraine patients

Caitlin Masterson, PhD, Clinvest Research, Springfield, MS, discusses the next steps following a study examining sound hypersensitivity in individuals with migraine. Findings from the study support the idea that individuals who experience migraine suffer from both sound hypersensitivity and fear of loud sounds during and even before their migraine attacks. The subsequent studies should include larger samples and test if available pharmaceutical therapies could help with phonophobia. In future studies, the distinction between phonophobia and hyperacusis should be considered. This interview took place at the American Headache Society 2023 meeting in Austin, TX.
