EAN 2023 | MDS task force on the biological definition of Parkinson’s disease

Tiago Outeiro, PhD, University Medical Center Gottingen, Gottingen, Germany, comments on the ongoing efforts to distinguish between the different forms of Parkinson’s disease. The breadth of new data generated in the fields of genetics, biology, and neuropathology of the disease has meant that existing terms and characteristics used to delineate different forms of Parkinson’s have become outdated. Therefore, experts in the field are incorporating new data to enhance the definition of factors and terms related to various forms of the disease, with the aim of refining and optimizing the management of Parkinson’s disease. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2023 Congress in Budapest, Hungary.
