ISC 2024 | Potential impact of head positioning in intracerebral hemorrhage

Anne W Alexandrov, PhD, RN, CCRN, ANVP-BC, NVRN-BC, FAAN, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN, discusses the potential impact of head of bed (HOB) positioning in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Although existing data indicates an increase in intracranial pressure at 30-degree HOB elevation, this finding has not been studied in an ICH patient population. Therefore, Prof. Alexandrov aims to advance our understanding of bed positioning effects on the neurological outcomes of ICH patients. Prof. Alexandrov emphasizes the need for proximal outcomes, highlighting the need for prompt evaluation of procedural maneuvers, distinct from traditional drug trials. Preliminary studies show promise and the team anticipates beginning trials soon. This interview took place during the International Stroke Conference 2024 in Phoenix, AZ.
