AAN 2022 | Acute symptomatic seizures secondary to autoimmune encephalitis vs autoimmune associated epilepsy

Claude Steriade, MD, New York School of Medicine, New York, NY, discusses the conceptual definitions of acute symptomatic seizures secondary to autoimmune encephalitis vs. autoimmune associated epilepsy. In the past two years, the establishment of these two categories will further prevent them from being confused in the literature; they are conceptually different entities and respond differently to clinical treatment. Dr Steriade states that one aspect covered in the talk will be the practical applications concerning acute symptomatic seizures secondary to autoimmune encephalitis vs. autoimmune associated epilepsy. This interview took place at the American Academy of Neurology 2022 Congress in Seattle, WA.
