WSC 2023 | PreventS-MD software for secondary stroke prevention

The increasing incidence of stroke over the past two decades suggests that current stroke prevention methods are ineffective. Balakrishnan S. Nair, MPH, PhD, National Institute for Stroke and Applied Neurosciences, Auckland University of Technology Auckland, New Zealand, explains that PreventS-MD software has been developed to focus on secondary stroke prevention, where the risk of recurrent stroke is high. This user-friendly software assesses stroke risk through clinically tested questions and then offers tailored, evidence-based recommendations, which clinicians can further adjust if necessary. PreventS-MD seamlessly integrates with existing systems in GP clinics and hospitals, offering adaptable ways to access patient dashboards while maintaining patient confidentiality. It is accessible across various devices, aiming to motivate patients in their lifestyle choices. This interview took place at the World Stroke Congress (WSC) 2023 in Toronto, Canada.
