Andreas Schulze-Bonhage, MD, PhD, Epilepsy Center, University Hospital Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany, discusses a novel focal cortical stimulation technique (the EASEE system) for minimally invasive epilepsy management. This approach uses an epicranial electrode system to target specific brain regions using two different types of stimulation, offering significant seizure reductions and improved quality of life for patients, with long-term data showing responder rates exceeding 65% after two years. Prof. Schulze-Bonhage also comments on the size difference of the stimulated region compared to other techniques and outlines some benefits of the EASEE system. This interview took place at the 15th European Epilepsy Congress (EEC) 2024 in Rome, Italy.
