Johanna Oechtering, MD, University Hospital and University of Basel, Basel, Switzerland, discusses a study investigating complement components (CCs) and complement activation products (CAPs) in the cerebrospinal fluid and plasma of individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). The study found consistent associations between increased CAPs and outcomes reflecting disease severity and activity. Dr Oechtering mentions that the complement system could be an attractive target to inhibit, especially in progressive MS where there are unmet treatment needs. This interview took place at the 40th Congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS 2024) in Copenhagen, Denmark.
