Carmen Barba, MD, PhD, Meyer Children’s Hospital, University of Florence, Florence, Italy, discusses her research on the evolving trends in pediatric epilepsy surgery, focusing on the impact of advances in pre-surgical evaluation, including new neuroimaging techniques, and the shift from temporal to extra-temporal surgeries. Dr Barba then highlights the challenges in increasing the number of surgeries performed. These include improving access to surgery, the hesitancy of both parents and doctors due to risks and uncertainties, and economic barriers. This interview took place at the 15th European Epilepsy Congress (EEC) 2024 in Rome, Italy.
