Celia Oreja-Guevara, MD, PhD, University Hospital San Carlos, Madrid, Spain, discusses the importance of using more accurate tests to evaluate visual function in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). While the standard Ishihara test typically shows no color abnormalities in these patients, many still report vision issues. Dr Oreja-Guevara highlights that using the Farnsworth-Munsell D28 test, commonly used by ophthalmologists, reveals color abnormalities in up to 40% of MS patients, compared to only 5% detected by the Ishihara test. She recommends the Farnsworth-Munsell test for clinical practice to better diagnose and understand patients’ chromatic alterations. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
