EAN 2024 | Recognizing lifetime contributions to epilepsy research

Elinor Ben-Menachem, MD, PhD, University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden received an honorary fellow award from the European Academy of Neurology for her lifetime contributions to epilepsy research. Since the 1980s, she has focused on anti-seizure medications and neurostimulation, conducting over 100 clinical trials. She played a key role in developing numerous marketed anti-seizure medications and introduced vagal nerve stimulation, a major treatment breakthrough in 1990. Prof. Ben-Menachem continues to conduct research, driven by the major unmet need for treatment options for the 20-30% of patients that remain resistant to current therapies. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
