EAN 2024 | Education in autonomic medicine in Europe

Autonomic medicine plays a widespread role across the neurology field, from movement disorders, to epilepsy, to neuromuscular disorders, and more. It’s therefore important for every practitioner of neurology to have knowledge of autonomic medicine. Diogo Reis Carneiro, MD, Hospitais da Universidade de Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal, discusses his survey on education in autonomic medicine in Europe, in which it was found that those practicing in the south of Europe felt they had less opportunity for education in autonomic medicine, despite feeling the need more frequently. Female participants, who also tended to be younger, also felt less confident about their knowledge in autonomic medicine and felt they had less opportunity for education. Dr Carneiro also shares some insights into the methods that respondents prefer for learning. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
