An expanding body of evidence indicates that the gut-brain axis likely plays a crucial role in neurological diseases. Caroline Pot, MD, Lausanne University, Center for Research in Neuroscience, Lausanne, Switzerland, discusses the gut-brain axis in multiple sclerosis (MS). There have been many developments in this field over the last years, including findings showing that MS patients have a different microbiota compared to healthy subjects. While studies on animal models investigating the changes in microbiota show that dysbioses can impact the immune response. Additionally, Prof. Pot highlights the importance of a healthy lifestyle in MS, including a balanced diet. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2022 Congress in Vienna, Austria.
