EAN 2023 | Emerging strategies in precision medicine for epilepsy

Guido Rubboli, MD, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark, shares promising new developments in the world of precision medicine for epilepsy. Currently, efforts are underway to optimize existing compounds, leveraging substantial knowledge about their mechanisms and integrating pharmacogenomics into decision marking. In parallel, compounds with enhanced specificity and selectivity are under development. Dr Rubboli also highlights newer strategies, including the use of antisense oligonucleotides for the suppression of abnormal molecule production associated with epileptic conditions and gene replacement therapy to replace defective genes with functional counterparts. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2023 Congress in Budapest, Hungary.
