MDS 2022 | Follow-up studies of long COVID in patients with Parkinson’s disease

Susanne Schneider, MD, PhD, University Hospital Munich, Munich, Germany, comments on conducing long-term surveillance in patients with Parkinson’s disease who have contracted COVID-19. Such data are currently available and analysis of these patients over a longer period of time will enable healthcare systems to prepare for similar events in the future. Genetic risk factors that may trigger Parkinsonian features in people with COVID may additionally be elucidated, where the virus may act as a trigger to such symptoms. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
