EAN 2023 | Global initiatives for enhanced brain health

Harris Eyre, MD, PhD, Baker Institute for Public Policy, Rice University, Houston, TX, highlights ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing the global impact of brain health disorders. Notably, the IHME Brain Health Atlas published in 2023 serves as a valuable policy tool for assessing the prevalence, incidence, and economic implications of these conditions on a country-specific basis worldwide. The atlas is a free, online mapping and data tool that allows anyone to visualize the global burden of brain health. Additionally, the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) is transitioning from a brain health strategy to a comprehensive brain health mission, recognizing that brain health goes beyond the absence of disease. This mission seeks to create a brain-healthy environment through international collaboration, supporting international and national policymaking, promoting education, and raising public awareness. On a smaller scale, countries like Norway are expanding their existing efforts, involving intensive research, advocacy, and clinician training related to brain health conditions. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) 2023 Congress in Budapest, Hungary.
