EAN 2024 | Autonomic dysfunction in synucleinopathies

Junie Shiwen Koay, MBBS, University College London Queen Square Institute of Neurology, London, UK, shares an overview of autonomic dysfunction in synucleinopathies and the impact of these manifestations on quality of life. Patients can experience a wide range of symptoms including orthostatic intolerance, bladder dysfunction, urogenital dysfunction, and sudomotor dysfunction. Dr Koay highlights that patients with pure autonomic failure who have significant autonomic dysfunction report similarly severe levels of physical disability to those with multiple system atrophy, where central manifestations cause significant disability. This interview took place at the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) Annual Meeting 2024 in Helsinki, Finland.
